Joseph C. Eaches.

According to his military papers, Joseph C. Eaches was born in 1820 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.  At the time of his enlistment on August 12, 1862, he was 6'3" high, light complexion, and blue eyes, light hair, and a mason by trade.  He was a private in the 18th Battery O.V. and discharged on June 29, 1865 at Camp Dennison, Ohio. 1  For anyone interested I have a photograph of the original discharge, but to reduce it in size makes it illegible, so I'll gladly send it out to anyone interested.  Here is an image of the book from which it came.

I have not found them in the 1850 census, though it would appear they should be in Gallia County. 

1860 census Joseph age 40, Catharine age 39, Elizabeth 8, Margaret 6, Virginia 5, David 3, John 6/12 of a year.

1870 can't find them anywhere. I did a browse of all 38 images of Perry Twp., Gallia and NO Eachus.

1880 census Joseph age 60, Catharine age 58, Elizabeth age 26, Margaret age 24, David age 20, Virginia age 20, John age 19, Finis (looks more like Sims, but I don't believe that it is) age 18, Virgil age 18, Elizabeth age 16.  David and Virginia were not twins as David shows up on the 1860 census and Virginia does not. Ironically according to their individual death certificates Virginia and John were twins both born March 3, 1856, but yet again on the 1860 census Virginia is listed as 5 and John is listed as 6/12ths of a year.  Here in the 1880 they are listed as only a year apart. 1890  Joseph C. Eachus (clearly spelled with a "u") Private 18th Ohio Light Artillery enlisted August 10, 1862 Discharged July 1, 1865 served 2 years 11 months and 21 days.  It lists his post office as Campbells and he had a broken hand.

Virginia Born March 3, 1856.  Married Patton Boggs about 1897.  Died in Ironton February 23, 1945, buried in Palestine Cemetery. G

John Born March 3, 1856. Married Minnie Carnell (Frank and Lucy Nance Carnell).  Died March 8, 1940 G death

record gives mother's name as Rebecca (could be Rebecca Catherine or Catherine Rebecca, or simply a mistake)

Virgil born April 18, 1862.  Married Martha [L or S] Malone on October 21, 1886, in Lawrence County. Marriage record is signed with "V 'X

his mark' Eachus"  Her father granted consent to the marriage..  Residence Ironton.  Died in Ironton, June 9, 1940, buried Sugar Creek

13th or 18, 1907 (print too small to clearly read). a

Update: Joseph's death record  shows he died April 1, 1897, and on this death record it shows he was 77 years, 2 months and 14 days, which means he was born on January 18, 1820, which fits with everything above.
