Virgil Houston and

Ellen Tipton Eaches.

Virgel Eachus m. Ellen Tipton on January 25, 1852 in Gallia County. (b. abt. 1827 d. abt. Nov. 27, 1878)

1860 they were living in Harrison Township, Gallia County, Ohio.  The family consisted of Virgil (who could not read or write), Ellen,

John, Rufus, James, and a 17 year old female, whose name I cannot figure out).

1870 census he was living in Commerce, Scott County, Missouri with the following: Virgil (who is not marked as being unable to read or write) Ellen, and children Rufus, James, Simon, and Amanda.  John is listed with the family immediately above “Milton Fowler.” 

Some online genealogies suggest that Ellen died December 10, 1876, and Virgil died November 27, 1878, both in Missouri.  I would tend to agree with this, as neither Virgil nor Ellen are found in any later census records. Though I am researching this out.

Virgil and Ellen's children were:

1.  John Eachus was born about 1854

2.  Rufus Eachus was born in June 1855, in Ohio according to the 1900 census.  In 1900 he was living in Hall, Lincoln County, Nebraska, with his wife Anna and children John W. born October 1880 in Illinois, James G. born March 1884 in Illinois,  Effie M. born May 1889 in Nebraska, Ruth D. born July 1894 in Nebraska, and Gerald D. born April 1898 in Nebraska. 

3.  James Eachus was born March 1859, in Ohio according to the 1900 census.  They were living in New Madrid, New Madrid, Missouri.  It looks as though he had a daughter Lela who was born in June of 1886, in Illinois, another daughter Effie born April 1889, a son James born November 1890, Fred born January 1894 and a daughter Carry(?) born February 1898  all the children with the exception of Lela were born in Missouri.

4.  Simon Eachus was born May 1862, in Ohio according to the 1900 census.  In 1900 he was a boarder living with the Worsley(?)  and Delia Smith.  Simon is listed as widowed.  He was living in Commerce, Scott County, Missouri.

5.  William Newton Eachus apparently was born in 1863 and died in 1866.  I've seen a death date suggested of January 23, but that has not been verified.  I have not been able to find William on any census records so I believe this information to be true.  Though I would love to verify this.
